PORTABLE VACUUM PUMP MILKING UNIT

Operating Instructions

1. MILKING WITH YOUR PORTABLE MILKER:
Most Portable Milkers come completely assembled, but if they are shipped unassembled, set up you portable milker according to the instructions.
Plug electric motor into 110V outlet. For gasoline engines, pull starter cord only after checking oil and gas level. Once motor or engine is running, visually inspect clear tube on the vacuum pump oiler to make sure that the oil is flowing to the pump. (oil level gauge is the small piece of clear hose in a U-shape on the side of the pump... Oil level should be close to the top)
With the stall cock (grey plated lever valve) in the closed position, the vacuum gauge should read 14" if milking cows, or 13" for goats and sheep. If not, the vacuum relief valve can be adjusted by loosening the locking nut and turning the body until the desired vacuum level is reached.

2. THE MILKING PROCEDURE:
Before attaching the teat cups, the animal should be prepared by careful washing and drying of the teats. Items that can be used can be found here http://www.gilesdairyservice.com/milkandwashkits.html Hand strip the initial milk. This helps stimulate the udder to let down the milk and also helps remove bacteria and impurities from the teat end.
Holding the claw in one hand, make sure that the teat cups and shells droop (bend) over the stubs of the claw. Open the hose clamp or valve on the bottom of the claw. While kneeling next to the animal, lift each individual teat cup and attach. Try to do this in a rapid efficient manner so as not to lose milking vacuum.
WARNING: If you animal has big teats, the teat cups do not need to be placed on the teats completely. Simply attach the Inflations (teat cups) so that they are attached to the end of the animals teats.
When you have attached all of the teat cups to the animal the Pulsator should start and you should be able to release your hand from the claw and the milker unit should just hang naturally from the animal
NOTICE: The milker will not seem to be working until all of the teat cups are attached and there are no vacuum leaks!
When the animal is finished milking, close the snap clamp or claw valve to shut off vacuum so as not to pull the teat cup off the udder, under vacuum.
To empty the bucket, shut off stall cock at vacuum source. Then open the snap clamp or claw valve to release vacuum in bucket. Make sure not to overfill bucket causing milk to flood the vacuum tank. If this happens, the vacuum tank must be flushed after milking, with an oil based cleaner to prevent rust build-up inside the pump.

3. THE WASHING PROCEDURE: When using the Easy Clean Bucket Milker Wash Kit
(Link To Easy Clean Kit http://www.gilesdairyservice.com/milkandwashkits.html)
After Milking, the cluster and buckets must be washed immediately!!
a. To operate, place up to four claws in the wash sink. Remove rubber caps from the nipple on the Wash Unit and attach hoses from each claw to a nipple. Fill was sink with clear 100 degree F water for the first step of the cleaning process, which is rinsing the milk residue from claws. Turn vacuum on and water will be pulled through claws into the Was Unit. Water will fill the unit forcing the float to the top causing vacuum to realse, allowing water to drain back through the claws. This process will occur as long as the vacuum is on. Allow about 6 cycles to occur for rinsing stage. Turn off vacuum. Use the inflation brush and scrub the inside of each inflation

b. Drain rinse water and fill sink with 3 gallons of hot water(125 Degree F). Add one ounce of ACCENT powder detergent. Turn on vacuum supply and allow the hot wash water to cycle through the claws and Wash Unit for about 5 minutes. Turn off vacuum. Do not let wash water drop below 120 Degree F, or your claw unit will not clean properly. Use the same water in sink and clean your brushes Bucket and lid.

c. Drain sink thoroughly and fill sink with 3 gallons of hot water(125 degree F). Add .25 ounce of SEQUENCE A acid cleaner. Turn on vacuum supply Allow it to cycle for 2 minutes.

d. When finished washing, let water drain out of Wash Unit and claws. Leave rubber caps off until Wash Unit is completely dry. Rinse all brushes and hang to drip dry.

3a. THE WASHING PROCEDURE: When Using Manual Bucket Milker Wash Kit (With Or Without Sink)
(Link To Manual Wash Kit http://www.gilesdairyservice.com/milkandwashkits.html)
After Milking, the cluster and buckets must be washed immediately!
a. Fill sink with warm water (115 degree F). Carefully pre-rinse the milking cluster. Use brushes included in the Manual Bucket Milking Wash Kit to clean all parts of the milk cluster. Rinse out milk bucket and lid.

b. Drain rinse water, and fill sink with 3 gallons of hot water (125 Degree F). Add 1 ounce of ACCENT powdered detergent. Clean claw, shells, inflation, Bucket, lid and hoses thoroughly

c. Drain sink thoroughly and fill sink with 3 gallons of hot water (125 degree F). Add .25 ounce of SEQUENCCE A acid cleaner. Clean all parts of the bucket milker again

d. When finished washing, let all components drain completely. Rinse all brushes and hang to drip dry

CAREFUL ATTENTION TO THE CLEANING AND DRYING PROCEDURE IS ESSENTIAL TO PRESERVE BOTH YOUR MILKING EQUIPMENT AND YOUR ANIMALS HEALTH.

4. PERIODIC MAINTENANCE:
-EVERY DAY-CHECK OIL LEVEL on pump reservoir. If low add 10/40 motor oil. To add simply pop out the black plastic plug on top of oil tank... to close press down until it snaps back in place. CHECK VACUUM LEVEL.(as explained in step 1.) CHECK PULSATOR TIME AND RATIO. Make sure there is no change in the sound and feel of the pulsator. if so check pulsator for clogs. CHECK DRAIN VALVE ON TANK.
-EVERY 6 MONTHS-FLUSH VACUUM PUMP. CHANGE INFLATIONS every 6 months or 1200 milking.(Part# ID-01A)
-EVERY YEAR-Change all rubber parts, gaskets and hoses.
If you are storing your pump for more than 1 month: Flush pump with flushing oil or kerosene. Put fresh oil in pump. Run pump for a few minutes at least once a per week
